Handel’s Messiah to be Performed December 10th

MAC Singers and Community Singers to Perform Messiah December 10th at Mineral Area College

Mineral Area Council on the Arts (MACOA) is happy to be a sponsoring partner with Mineral Area College and the Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy (MAFAA) for the second choir concert in the 2021-2022 performance series.

The MAC Singers and the Mineral Area Community Singers will perform Handel’s Messiah, Friday, Dec. 10, 2021 at 7:00 pm in the Mineral Area College Fine Arts Theater.  This event is directed by Mrs. Sherry Francis and accompanied by Mr. Isaac Hallock with special guest instrumentalists from the Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy orchestra. Tickets are $4 at the door.

The MAC Choirs and the MAFAA orchestra will share a night of jubilation with the performance of George Frideric Handel’s classic, Messiah, an English oratorio composed in 1741 with scriptural text marking the beauty and majesty of Christ the Messiah and the Christmas season.  This well-known musical composition has become one of the most admired and frequently performed choral works in Western music today!  The MAC Singers will open with some traditional Christmas favorites then combine with the Community Singers for an exciting variety of selected literature from Messiah, featuring many talented soloists.  The choirs will close with the spectacular and resounding, “Hallelujah Chorus!”  Scottye Adkins, Executive Director of MACOA states, “If you have attended performances of Messiah in the past, this year’s presentation promises to be like none other in recent memory with the addition of the MAFAA orchestra.  The Mineral Area community has a great number of extremely talented musicians who work non-stop to produce works of excellence.”  Invite friends and family to this special night of vocal music and experience the triumph of the season!

Mrs. Francis commented, “I am extremely honored to direct such a divinely inspired masterpiece as Messiah and work with brilliant singers and instrumentalists.  It is truly a blessing!  One of our singers, Dan Reiter, who has been a member and bass singer of the Community Singes for many years shared a special sentiment about singing the Messiah.  ‘The Messiah is written in such a unique way, when you sing it, you will hear overtones of your vocal part within the orchestration and it will bring a tear to your eye.’  This music is inspiring, powerful and timeless.”

Following the performance at MAC, the choirs have the opportunity to take the Messiah into our surrounding communities this year!  MAC Singers and the Community Singers were invited to sing at the Christmas event in Park Hills, “Christmas in My Hometown,” where the choirs will sing songs from Messiah, starting at 1:00pm on Saturday, Dec. 11 in downtown, Park Hills.  We will also have small vocal ensembles and carolers from each group participating in traditional and contemporary Christmas songs.  It is sure to be a great and joyous occasion for all!

MAC Singers and Community Singers will also sing together on Sunday, December 12 at the Leadwood First Church of God during a special Christmas service where many local community churches come together for a night of Christmas music and fellowship. They have invited the choirs to sing some selections from Messiah as well as traditional Christmas carols. The event at the Leadwood First Church of God, “Silent Night, O Holy Night” starts at 7:00pm.

It is a full weekend of Messiah performances!  Francis looks forward to this incredible experience as the choirs share the good news and joy of the season! MACOA thanks the public support from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency, and our local business and individual financial supporters for helping achieve the goal of the continuation of the Mineral Area Community Singers.
